Watch MSNBC Host Call Republican Pundits “Chickensh*t” To Their Faces As They Tried To Smear Witness From Impeachment Hearing

Republicans, faced with the prospect of the testimony of Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, played a familiar if hypocritical card: They questioned the national loyalty of a decorated war veteran.

Calling to mind memories of the 2004 presidential campaign — during which political action committees and even some Republican members of Congress attacked the service record of then-Senator John Kerry — talking heads, pundits, and yes, some Republican members of Congress did the same to Vindman, who is a Soviet Jewish refugee born in Ukraine during the time of the USSR.

In fact, let me hand you over to MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace, who has a little more background on Vindman, and was clearly even more perturbed by conservative hacks attacking Vindman’s loyalty than some of the rest of us.

During a panel discussion on her own show, after a brief “introduction” of Vindman to her viewers, Wallace showed clips of familiar faces from some other networks chiming in on Vindman disrespectfully, with one commentator on white nationalist Laura Ingraham’s program saying “some people might call that espionage” in reference to Vindman’s work on the National Security Council.

Wallace was having none of it:

Except those people aren’t chickenshit like the three of you and they know that he passed a background check — that the President’s daughter and son-in-law didn’t.”

Vindman served honorably in the armed forces and served honorably on the National Security Council, and now these Republicans want to pretend like he has some dual loyalty, or even higher loyalty, to Ukraine? That’s a disgusting assertion to make, and one that the left never touches. Did Colin Powell lie to the UN? Yes, but we never attacked him as a General. Did John McCain vote against his own state recognizing Martin Luther King Day as a holiday? Yes, but we never attacked his status as a prisoner of war.

These are things that, unless the person in question was dishonorably discharged, should not come up. But Republicans do it without compunction.
