Trump Hints At His Next Tariff Target, Americans Will Lose Their Minds

This will NOT go over well.

It seems that Donald Trump’s most favorite thing these days are those trusty, dusty tariffs. We all remember when he went through a spell where a national emergency seemed to be his answer for everything. But we all also know that didn’t turn out so well for him. Now it appears that he’s forgone the national emergency declarations and is now instead opting for implementing tariffs on, well, everybody.

He’s executed, or at least threatened to execute, tariffs on China, Mexico, and nearly everyone in between. But his newest tariff threat is one that will certainly piss off the thousands of folks that rely on a buzz to get through the clusterfuck that is this presidency.

Apparently, Trump is now on the warpath for French wine.

“France charges us a lot for the wine. And yet we charge them very little for French wine,” Trump whined in an interview with CNBC anchors after his recent visit to Normandy, France.

“So the wineries come to me and say, ’Sir’ — the California guys, they come, ’Sir, we’re paying a lot of money to put our product into France, and you’re letting’ — meaning, this country is allowing — ‘these French wines, which are great wines, but we have great wines too — allowing it to come in for nothing. It’s not fair”

“And you know what?” Donald continued. “It’s not fair. We’ll do something about it.”

Trump has grumbled about the French wine situation in the past but without any true action. Back in November, he complained about it being too hard for American wine producers to sell in France while the US makes it too “easy” to import French wines, claiming it “must change.”

Of course, Trump’s concern over the wine industry is likely to have very little to do with the common good of our country and far more to do with the fact that his son, Eric Trump, is president of a winery near Charlottesville, Virginia that Donald bought in a foreclosure auction in 2011.

Whatever his motives may be this time, we can say with certainty that people are going to be damn pissed — and not the European slang for “drunk” — if they can’t afford to drown their Trump sorrows in a glass of wine.
