Social Media Giant Says It Will No Longer Promote Trump’s Content

It's a good start.

A major social media platform has announced that it will no longer carry Donald Trump’s content, setting the stage for yet another temper tantrum and possible retaliation.

Twitter finally began slapping notices on Trump’s tweets recently when it fact-checked his lies about voter fraud and dinged him for “glorifying violence” in a racist tweet in which he threatened to have protesters shot.

Trump responded by accusing Twitter of censoring him even though his tweets were not removed or altered beyond a notification message to users.

He would go on to sign an executive order authorizing the FCC to look into accusations of censorship — even though the Constitution protects private companies from the government restricting speech, not the other way around.

The order also allows Attorney General Bill Barr to possibly spy on and track Americans on and off social media.

While Twitter is beginning to do more in regards to Trump’s outrageous behavior on their platform, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg refuses. And neither company has outright banned him even though they really should.

But Snapchat took concrete action against Trump by announcing that Trump’s content is no longer welcome on their platform.

“We are not currently promoting the president’s content on Snapchat’s Discover platform,” the company said in a statement reported on by NBC News. “We will not amplify voices who incite racial violence and injustice by giving them free promotion on Discover. Racial violence and injustice have no place in our society and we stand together with all who seek peace, love, equality, and justice in America.”

The decision comes as Trump continues to refer to protesters as “lowlifes” and “thugs” and demands the military be brought in to violently put down the demonstrations.

Undoubtedly, Trump will react by lashing out at Snapchat and accuse the platform of censoring him. But his content frequently breaks the rules established by the company that all users must follow. So, he only has himself to blame.
