What do you know? Donald Trump got himself in a shit fix and proceeded to drag the rest of the entire Republican party down with him — completely unsurprising, right?

During a podcast by Yahoo! News, Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) called the Republican GOP out on their nonsense — condemning them for sitting around with their thumbs up their asses, refusing to assist or cooperate with any investigations into the president. In fact, according to Whitehouse, not only is the GOP not helpful in any way, they were actually a super-colossal hindrance to the whole process, doing everything they could to work against Muellerduring his Russia investigation and make his job that much more difficult. Whitehouse stated:

Whether it amounts to criminal conduct, clearly the efforts of the House Republicans were designed to impede and throw sticks into the spokes of the Mueller investigation. To discredit it, foul it up, to provide alternative narratives, potentially even to communicate to potential witnesses or jurors their alternative narratives and thereby influence the proceedings… all of that.”

Whitehouse pointed out that Republicans were just “one bad email away” from being guilty of obstruction of justice themselves.

The only thing that stops that being a crime is the contact with Trump’s lawyers and the corrupt intent. The other elements are all there. You can show in abundance that they tried to interfere with the Mueller investigation. Whether they did that with the requisite corrupt intent … We’re one bad email away. It definitely needs to be investigated.”

That take is extra interesting and relevant now, considering that obstruction of justice was one thing that both Mueller and Attorney General Bill Barr noted that Trump could not be exonerated for, despite the fact that POTUS started screaming “EXONERATED” from the rooftops pretty much immediately.

You can listen to the whole podcast below:

This particular instance of shadiness within the GOP is a pretty good indicator of the behavior we can expect from the party now that Trump’s impeachment inquiry is in full swing. This investigation by Congress, as is their right and duty per the constitution, will undoubtedly be met with the same resistance, refusal to cooperate, and blatant obstruction that the Mueller investigation was subjected to.

Before you know it, that whole entire party is going to go down in flames.
