Usually, the internet is the worst place in the world. It’s full of sexists and racists and YouTube commenters that have an opinion on everything. In fact, there’s this one guy on Twitter who literally spends all day talking about how great he is and what a loser everyone else is, and lying about everything in the universe. And that guy has a huge staff that works for him, and they’re all dicks on the internet too.
Just a few days ago, for example, one of Donald Trump’s senior advisors, Jenna Ellis, tweeted out an article questioning Kamala Harris’ eligibility to run for Vice President. That’s racist right off the bat, because there have only ever been two people whose nationality has been questioned during an election they were running in, and they both happen to be Black.
Then Ellis tweeted something even more ridiculous: That Kamala somehow sounds like cartoon character Marge Simpson:
Kamala sounds like Marge Simpson.

But today the internet was a nice place. Today, the creators of “The Simpsons” blessed us with a response video directly from Marge herself.
In case you’ve been living in a cave for the last 33 years, Marge is the beloved matriarch of the Simpson clan (no relation to yours truly), denizens of Springfield, America. She is wife to the lovably stupid Homer and mother to Lisa, Bart, and Maggie. She has a column of blue hair that’s at least three beehives high. She is not a real person.
But Marge feels real to many of us, because, well, we’ve been growing up with the Simpson family for more than 3 decades. Sharing the last name, they seem very real to me.
So when Marge responded, she was all of us. Her lesson for Jenna Ellis wasn’t one of furious retribution or petty mockery, like perhaps you or I might have been tempted to offer in response. It was a bit of moral guidance short enough to fit in a tweet of her own: Be nice to people, Jenna.
