Almost the entire nation is in heartbroken mourning over the recent murder of George Floyd and all the innocent black lives like his taken too early.

Everyone just short of the current inhabitant of the White House, anyway.

As the country mourns, protests, riots, and demands reform, Donald Trump is either burying himself in his bunker or using the force of the United States National Guard to get his way when he comes out of hiding.

Ultimately, it’s been left up to those that came before this administration to actually do the right thing.

Today, former United States President George W. Bush released a statement regarding the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and it unsurprisingly put Donald J. Trump to shame.

Speaking on behalf of himself and his wife, Laura, Bush spoke of their “anguish” as a result of Floyd’s death. He explained that he and his wife over the past week have “resisted the urge to speak out, because this is not the time for us to lecture. It is time for us to listen.”

Bush went on to explain that white Americans can best serve as an ally when they “try to understand their experience.”

“It remains a shocking failure that many African Americans, especially young African American men, are harassed and threatened in their own country…” Bush’s statement reads.

“How do we end systemic racism in our society? The only way to see ourselves in a true light is to listen to the voices of so many who are hurting and grieving. Those who set out to silence those voices do not understand the meaning of America — or how it becomes a better place,” the former president continues.

Bush said that the bottom line is “lasting justice will only come by peaceful means.”

However, “we also know that lasting peace in our communities requires truly equal justice. The rule of law ultimately depends on the fairness and legitimacy of the legal system.”
